Prepare a simple RTF note with basic emphasis
Use Rich Text for a short note that needs basic emphasis and an RTF download. The page provides formatting controls for editing, but its RTF writer preserves only a core subset. Prioritize bold, italic, underline, strike-through, headings, bullets and paragraph breaks rather than relying on every on-screen style to survive export.
Use structures the recipient can recognize
The practice handout below has a title, two bullet items and a short optional instruction. It uses text structures the writer is designed to retain, giving you a compact example to inspect in the destination application.
Apply a heading to the title and use the list control for the two items. Italicize the word Optional in the final paragraph. Avoid using repeated spaces to draw columns; alignment can change when another application substitutes a font.
Check the download rather than only the preview
Choose File, then Download RTF. Reopen the result in the program your recipient uses and inspect the heading, both bullets and the italic word. The editing preview is not sufficient evidence of what the RTF file contains.
The current writer does not faithfully export chosen fonts, colors, alignment, tables or images. For a task that depends on those details, use a suitable document format and editor rather than assuming that every visible toolbar control has a matching RTF representation.
Reformat imported text when necessary
RTF import here extracts text and removes its original rich formatting, including pictures and complex structures. Plan to reformat that content. HTML import is also an editing starting point, not a way to preserve a complete website and its styles.
Keep the source alongside the new RTF until you have compared them. Local drafts are convenient for continuing in the same browser, but downloading is necessary for a file you can transfer or back up. If DOCX exchange is the main requirement, use the Word editor instead.

Limits of this editor
- RTF import reads text instead of preserving the original rich formatting.
- RTF export supports bold/italic/underline/strike, headings, bullets and paragraph/line breaks.
- Selected fonts, colors, alignment, images and tables are not faithfully represented by the current RTF writer.
- This editor accepts document inputs up to 25 MiB, shown as 25 MB in the interface.
Questions about this workflow
Will my selected font and color necessarily appear in the RTF?
No. The writer supports a smaller formatting subset than the on-screen controls.
Can it preserve a picture layout from an imported RTF?
No. This importer extracts text for editing rather than rebuilding the original picture and page layout.
Why use this instead of Notepad?
Basic emphasis, headings and lists can be represented in the RTF output. A TXT file stores characters and line breaks without that formatting.
